Dysregulation and Stress Responses

Dysregulation, also known as emotional dysregulation, refers to a poor ability to manage emotional responses or to keep them within an acceptable range of typical emotional reactions. This can refer to a wide range of emotions including sadness, anger, irritability, and frustration. In a recent Canadian poll, about one-quarter of Canadians said that they feel quite a bit stressed or extremely stressed most days – stress can affect some people differently than others. Although more and more studies substantiate the benefits of embracing our emotions as they are, we struggle to put this knowledge into practice. This struggle is experienced by people from all walks of life, and we can all benefit from exploring how to move towards healthier and more helpful ways of coping.
