EHN Canada already represents excellence in the addiction treatment industry, and now we’re getting noticed for entrepreneurial innovation and skill.
Our CEO, Joe Manget, was recognized on behalf of EHN Canada by EY with their Entrepreneur Of The Year Award for Health and Life Sciences. After a lengthy process of nomination, interviews and adjudication, the winners for each category in Ontario were announced on October 24. An independent panel of esteemed judges from various backgrounds in business excellence selected winners from a pool of finalists based on the following qualities:
- Entrepreneurial spirit
- Strategic direction and innovation
- Vision, leadership and achievement
- Financial performance
- Social responsibility
- Personal integrity and influence
Nine winners from each business category were selected for Ontario. As a finalist from Ontario, EHN Canada was recognized from a pool of other unstoppable companies in the healthcare space. The Ontario finalist from Danby Appliances goes on to compete for a national award which has a distinguished roster of Canadian entrepreneurial giants as alumni—companies such as WestJet, Canada Goose, Mattamy Homes, Cirque du Soleil, and The Brick have won the award for Canada.

We’re Just Getting Started
In his acceptance speech at the awards gala, Joe emphasized that addiction treatment will continue to grow in need and urgency. For the first time since World War I, life expectancy in Canada is declining not due to climate change, or obesity, but due to addiction, suicide, and other tragic consequences of mental illness. Government isn’t doing enough to fix it, but we’re on the forefront working 24/7 to help Canadians. We believe that every Canadian should be able to receive addiction and mental health treatment that is accessible (little to no wait times), affordable (paid for by the government or employer), and excellent (based on best available evidence). We believe that this should be a civil right, but we have a long way to go to accomplish this goal. With awards such as this one from EY, EHN Canada receives more recognition and resources to advocate for policy change on behalf of Canadians with substance use and mental health disorders.
We’re ecstatic that EY recognizes the need for better healthcare for Canadians and innovative care in the addiction treatment field. We invite you to take a look at this video EY made for us. We’re proud to have strong leadership as we continue to disrupt the status quo and innovate addiction care in Canada. We would also like to congratulate other award winners and wish the finalists luck as they advance to the national and international levels of the competition.
