Treatment Exclusive to Military Members, Veterans, First Responders, and Healthcare Workers

EHN Guardians Nanaimo has a dedicated space for our military, veteran, first responder, and frontline healthcare worker communities. These individuals are exposed to unique experiences that contribute to trauma, addiction, and mental illness. EHN Guardians Nanaimo is proud to offer treatment programs tailored to their specialized needs. Our evidence-based treatment addresses their distinctive struggles, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Moral Injury, Occupational Stress Injury (OSI), as well as any associated substance use disorders.

Our facility is nestled in a serene location away from the hustle and bustle of Nanaimo, creating an atmosphere of tranquility and peace. EHN Guardians Nanaimo is located on the EHN Edgewood Campus but the Guardians program operates from a different building, allowing the community to build within a safe dedicated space.

Patients who join our program often express a profound sense of safety and comfort upon their arrival. We actively promote various activities that help patients make the most of their time here.

Type of Therapeutic Approach

The trauma program at EHN Guardians Nanaimo incorporates a comprehensive approach, considering the biopsychosocial, spiritual, and environmental aspects of healing. It distinguishes itself from the core addiction program byoffering trauma-focused group therapy in conjunction with addiction-related sessions. Our therapeutic strategies encompass a range of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Somatic Therapy, and Accelerated Resolution Therapy. In addition to this, we also provide trauma-sensitive yoga, art therapy, essential oils, labyrinth walks, and sound therapy.

Patients in the trauma program have opportunities to engage with members of the EHN Edgewood Nanaimo community during daily lectures, mealtimes, gym and recreational activities, as well as meditation and yoga sessions. The Concurrent Trauma and Addictions program maintains a balance, with a 70% emphasis on addressing trauma and a 30% focus on addiction-related issues. Our holistic approach aims to provide patients with a well-rounded and supportive environment for their recovery journey.
