Addiction and Mental Health Program
The day-to-day experiences of military, veterans, first responders, and healthcare workers, often including life-and-death decisions, are unimaginable to the average citizen. As a result, they often experience moral injury, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and operational stress injury. Increased substance use can become a way they choose to deal with these feelings.
At EHN Guardians Gateway in Peterborough, Ontario, just an hour and a half outside Toronto, our Addiction and Mental Health Program is designed to treat the root cause of addiction and mental health struggles, leading to long-lasting recovery.
Treatment From a Team That Understands
While we offer trauma treatment at our other EHN Canada facilities, we noticed a demand for a space and programs created exclusively for military, veterans, and first responders for them to share experiences and recover. The workplace experiences of these groups may make them feel less willing to share with those who do not understand. That’s why we’ve created a treatment facility in which clients can feel comfortable sharing their stories and feelings. And our staff are professional, compassionate, understanding and non-judgemental when it comes to their treatment approach. Think of them more as partners in recovery than as authority figures.
How it works
Members of Canadian Armed Forces, Veterans Affairs Canada, and Partners in Veteran Rehabilitation Services are all offered access to our Aftercare program. WSIB clients are able to access ongoing outpatient care through the First Responder Mental Health Specialty program.

Pre-Screening Assessment
Find the right program.
Care Plan
Meet with our recovery team to build a treatment plan.
Detox & Stabilization
For those struggling with substance use, prepare for rehab with 24/7 nursing support and supervision.
Treatment
Spend 7 to 10 weeks in evidence-based treatment, including the use of DBT, CBT and in-vivo exposure therapy.
Family Participation
Work with our therapists to develop a plan that will work for you.
Relapse Prevention Plan
Work with our therapists to develop a plan that will work for you.
Aftercare
Leave EHN Guardians Gateway with a plan for outpatient follow up and access to alumni support.

Here, they will meet other military service members, veterans, and first responders with shared experiences and get treatment from our compassionate, professional team. And they will also get to experience the calm they need to focus on themselves, far away from their hectic workplaces.
