When you come to EHN Guardians Atlantic, you join a community dedicated to your trauma and addiction recovery.
During your stay in beautiful Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, you’ll receive compassionate care from medical experts and fellow first responders, military members, and veterans who understand the suffering that trauma coupled with addiction brings. Our clinical team – including doctors, nurses, and counsellors – provide the guidance and care you need to address past traumas and abstain from substances to build healthy habits that last.
EHN Guardians Atlantic is exclusively for our military, veteran, and first responder patients to begin the work of PTSD treatment and addiction recovery with like-minded individuals. You’ll recover with a small cohort of peers to foster a safe, trusting space in which you can truly open and heal.

Our Approach to PTSD and Addiction Treatment
Our inpatient PSTD and Addiction Treatment program helps you build the foundation for lasting recovery through a number of evidence-based treatments, including:

- Psychotherapy including CPT, CBT, DBT, EMDR and ART
- Individual and small-group therapy
- Integrated care (yoga, meditation, fitness, nutrition, sleep hygiene, art therapy)
- 24/7 medical care and nursing support
- Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS): to treat major depressive disorder and several other psychiatric conditions
- Detox and withdrawal management
- Relapse prevention strategies that work
- Comprehensive discharge planning, involving community care providers
- Self-Help Groups (SHGs) like 12-Step and SMART Recovery
- Aftercare and online recovery tools using the EHN Online app
- Family therapy
- Access to EHN Canada’s lifelong alumni network
A day at EHN Guardians Atlantic
Your story is unique, which is why your recovery journey is unique as well. While treatment plans and structure can vary, below is just a sample of what your day might involve in our Concurrent Trauma and Addiction Program for military, veterans, and first responders.
Morning
Before attending an educational lecture about distress tolerance, you’ll start your day with a healthy, chef-prepared breakfast. There will also be time for you to set your intentions with some self-reflection and a walk on our lush grounds.
Afternoon
You’ll kick off the afternoon with a delicious lunch. Then you’ll attend a lecture about how the mind-body connection affects trauma recovery, or a one-on-one counselling session to talk through the workplace experiences that led to your PTSD.
Evening
In the evening you’ll participate in specialized, trauma-centred peer support groups focused on symptoms management, emotional processing, or returning to work. You’ll get moving before dinner with a visit to the gym or by participating in a group fitness class, like circuit training, yoga, or somatic movement.
