Whether you’ve suffered psychological distress at work or in your personal life, you can turn to EHN Bellwood Toronto for evidence-based recovery. Our clinical team – including doctors, nurses, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, masters trained therapists, and other experts – provides the care and guidance you need to regain peace of mind after surviving trauma. The coping skills you’ll learn will stay with you beyond your seven weeks at our Toronto facility for intensive trauma therapy. 

Note: If you’re a veteran, military member, or first responder looking for help with PTSD, we also offer a specialized facilities at EHN Guardians Gateway in Ontario, EHN Guardians Atlantic in Nova Scotia, or at EHN Guardians Nanaimo in British Columbia. These facilities are not open to the general public.  You are not required to attend one of these facilities if you are a veteran, military member or first responder.

Our Approach to PTSD Treatment and Intensive Trauma Therapy

EHN Bellwood Toronto’s integrative model of care is grounded in trauma-informed and patiient-centered practices that incorporate various therapeutic techniques, including:

  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for processing past trauma
  • Prolonged Exposure therapy (imaginal and in-vivo onsite and offsite exposures) with occupational therapists to address triggers
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to assist in developing helpful thought patterns and healthy behaviours in recovery
  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) for developing the skills needed to regulate emotions and distress, stabilize interpersonal relationships, and practice mindfulness
  • Focused time on relapse prevention
  • Art therapy to facilitate self-exploration and understand thoughts and feelings that may otherwise be difficult to express
  • Individual psychotherapy for an empathetic and safe space to discuss personal recovery concerns and develop treatment goals
  • Group therapy to provide opportunities for peer support and professionally guided emotional processing
  • Psychoeducational sessions to help you understand yourself and the nature of your trauma
  • Physical exercise and recreational activities for creating healthy, lasting habits

A day at EHN Bellwood Toronto's Trauma Recovery Program

Every aspect of the EHN Bellwood Toronto experience is thoughtfully designed by our team of medical experts in order to give patients the best chance at a successful recovery. While every individual’s experience at EHN Bellwood Toronto varies, and we are constantly updating our approach to provide the best treatment. Here’s an example of what a typical day in EHN Bellwood Toronto’s Trauma Recovery Program might look like.

EHN

Morning

After enjoying a healthy, chef-prepared breakfast, you’ll connect with fellow patients to start the day off with some reflective practice and intentions for the day. Then, you’ll attend an educational lecture on a topic like understanding trauma, self-compassion, setting boundaries or improving sleep. Afterwards, you’ll heal from the inside out with an invigorating warrior yoga class or walk in the ravine.

Afternoon

After taking a break for a delicious lunch, you’ll learn skills to help you regulate your emotions and distress. In the afternoon, you will begin your small group Cognitive Processing Therapy sessions where we will safely start to explore your trauma. Then, you’ll end the day with either a one-on-one therapy session, mindfulness practice, or behaviour application group to help reinforce the skills you are learning.

Evening

After enjoying dinner with your fellow patients, you have the opportunity to partake in different self-help groups, fun recreational activities, or connect quietly with others to decompress. If medications are part of your care plan, our medical team will distribute them to you throughout the day, as needed. There are also holistic therapies you can participate in including massage, acupuncture, or chiropractor (extra fees apply).
