Leading Addiction Expert and Treatment Advocate to Share Insights and Strategies for Effective Care

TORONTO, July 2, 2019—David Sack, MD, recently joined the EHN Canada Advisory Board to share his expertise on mental health and substance use disorders. Dr. Sack currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer of Elements Behavioural Health and Promises Treatment Centers. He is also the Senior Vice President of Clinical Research at Comprehensive NeuroScience.

Dr. Sack served as CEO and CMO of Elements Behavioral Health, a national U.S. provider of comprehensive treatment programs for substance use disorders, sex addiction, trauma, eating disorders, and other mental health disorders.

Prior to founding Elements Behavioral Health, Dr. Sack received his medical degree from Rush Medical College and subsequently completed his residency in Psychiatry at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Neuropsychiatric Institute.

Dr. Sack joined The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the lead U.S. federal agency for research on mental health disorders, as a research fellow and later served as a Senior Clinical Scientist and Unit Chief in the Clinical Psychobiology Branch. His research interests included affective disorders, seasonal and circadian rhythms, and neuroendocrinology.

He held the position of Senior Vice President for Clinical Research at Comprehensive NeuroScience, where he conducted and supervised research in alcohol dependency, opiate detoxification, schizophrenia, depression, insomnia, and cognitive disorders.

Dr. Sack is board certified in General Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, and Geriatric Psychiatry.

In addition to his research interests, Dr. Sack designed treatment strategies to reduce overdose deaths, self-harm, and suicidal behaviour. He also worked to design specialized treatment programs to address the nuanced challenges of treating patients with concurrent mental health and substance use disorders.

Dr. Sack’s extensive knowledge and expertise in addiction treatment has made him a sought-after media expert. He has appeared on Dateline NBC, Good Morning America, The Early Show, E! News, The Doctors, and other outlets. He has also been interviewed and quoted by major print media sources, including The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and Time Magazine.

Dr. Sack provides essential research findings and innovative leadership for the advancement of addiction treatment.
